What the client wanted:

A kitchen garden in the front yard that would be attractive to client and neighbors year round.

What we did:

BB designed an inner vegetable garden surrounded by an edible and native plant perennial and shrub border. The outer ‘frame’ for the garden allows the client to install temporary barriers to protect vegetables from rabbits and other pests, and keeps the garden looking attractive year round. A pathway along the drive serves as a buffer for cars and access to the garden.

What we love:

That we were able to harvest water from a downspout is so that it irrigates the garden through an underground pipe. The garden looks lovely even when tomatoes get mangy at the end of the summer, and that Chokeberry, a beautiful native substitute for the invasive Burning Bush, provides food and habitat for important native insects and birds.
